The LaMotte WaterLink Spin Touch is a photometer that uses pre-measured reagent disks to analyze water samples. Here’s a detailed breakdown of how it works
Components:
- Meter: The meter is the electronic device that houses the light source, detector, and processing unit. It reads the results from the reagent disk and displays the test results on a screen.
- Reagent Disk: The Spin Touch uses special reagent disks called WaterLink Spin Disks. These single-use consumables contain pre-measured amounts of chemicals specific to the tests you want to perform. Each disk is divided into sections, with each section containing reagents for a particular test.
- Sample Chamber: This is the compartment where you insert the filled reagent disk for testing.
Testing Process:
-
Fill the Disk: You’ll fill the single-use WaterLink Spin Disk with your water sample using a syringe provided in the test kit. There are designated fill ports and chambers within the disk. Filling must be done carefully and precisely to the correct level for accurate results (refer to my previous response for filling instructions).
-
Insert the Disk: Once filled, place the WaterLink Spin Disk into the sample chamber of the Spin Touch meter. The meter will typically guide you with on-screen instructions or have designated markings for proper disk insertion.
-
Centrifugation and Analysis: When you initiate the test, the meter spins the disk at a high speed (centrifugation). This process mixes the water sample with the reagents in each chamber, creating a chemical reaction.
-
Light Measurement: The meter shines light of specific wavelengths through the reacted solutions in each chamber of the disk. The amount of light absorbed by the solution is measured by a detector.
-
Data Analysis and Display: The meter’s processor analyzes the light absorption data based on pre-programmed calibrations for each test. This analysis provides the final test results, which are displayed on the meter’s screen.
Benefits of LaMotte WaterLink Spin Touch:
- Ease of Use: Pre-measured WaterLink Spin Disks eliminate the need for manual measurements and mixing chemicals, reducing the risk of errors.
- Accuracy: Centrifugation ensures thorough mixing and consistent results.
- Speed: Test results are typically obtained within a minute.
- Portability: The LaMotte WaterLink Spin Touch is available in portable versions, making it suitable for on-site testing.
Things to Consider:
- LaMotte WaterLink Spin Touch requires purchasing specific WaterLink Spin Disks for the tests you want to perform.
- While user-friendly, it’s still important to read and follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully for accurate testing.
